Jessica L. Getman
I am a Ph.D. student in Historical Musicology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. My research interests include popular parody song (contrafactum) in eighteenth-century Europe, as well as parody song in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
Music has been a foundational element of culture throughout history, influencing our understanding of historical periods and revealing values in society. It is an art that gives deep insight into who we are and what we believe, both individually and as a people. It is this societal relevance that drives my interest—I am committed to the study of music as a historical and contemporary expression of culture.
